All Arts Administration

The role of an arts administrator is to provide the business support services which bring artists and audiences together and generate artistic activity – be it musical, visual, dramatic or literary in nature, contributing to the policy and delivery of the cultural sector.

Arts administrators can be found running large national theatres, promoting the activity of regional arts centres, managing a film venue or gallery, deciding funding policies for development agencies, organising a small local arts festival, running huge events and much more. Often arts activities are subsidised through grants and facilitate work that has a wider social benefit.

Common types of jobs include:
• Marketing and promotion
• Commissioning work and booking artists
• Financial management
• Development (fundraising and grant seeking)
• Project and operational management
• Programme management and strategic planning
• Outreach and public education work
• Governance and policy
